Intro to Embroidery
Level: Beginner
Discover the art of hand embroidery in this beginner friendly class, perfect for those who have never touched a needle and thread or those who need a refresher. In this 2 hour class, you will learn about materials, tools, terms and five basic stitches to complete your first piece. These stitches are the foundation needed to start this art form. Enjoy a friendly, relaxing, hands-on learning opportunity in an intimate setting to try a meditative craft that allows you to slow down and create. You will leave with a completed (or close to it!) piece of summer flowers.
Included: an embroidery hoop, fabric, needle, threads, the flower project pattern and a list of recommended resources

About the Instructor:
Leila is a Georgia native who started her fiber arts journey as a child with her grandmother. During school holidays, she was taught to sew, knit and stitch a variety of projects and materials including her first homecoming dress! Over the years, her art has grown to include fused and stained glass, ceramics, needlepoint and embroidery. Her love of bright, vivid colors shows up in her pieces no matter the art form. She is passionate about creating art in settings that build community and how making things with our hands can be relaxing and meditative. She is also an arts administrator having earned both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Arts Administration and worked many years in live events and technology in theater, concert halls, arenas, zoos and many other spaces.
